Studying in IT, it is mandatory task for me to check out what is happening in IT world on the regular basis, which I actually don’t do often. But yesterday I got an interesting news “China developed a Supercomputer which  ranked 1 in the list.” and I was like ”dammm!! ”  Although I know that China is rapidly making fantastic progress in all fields but according to my poor knowledge China was not in competition with India for supercomputer making. What I only knew was India got PARAM computer which is a supercomputer.

But now the latest in the range of param supercomputer: PARAM YUVA II , which has 69th rank in the list where as China holds the first rank with Tianhe-2 supercomputer.

Param supercomputer

What really happened?

You all may heard about this. It is a supercomputer developed and designed in India (pride). Actually it is a series of supercomputers made by C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) in Pune, India. C-DAC was established because Cray Inc. denied to fuel-up India’s supercomputer need.  India started research on this topic in collaboration with Russia. As a result, India created C-DAC  in 1988. Only 3 years after establishing, In 1991 C-DAC installed  ”PARAM 8000″ which was India’s first supercomputer.

China was no where in the picture. But after  2008 picture changed dramatically. They in-forced full power in this field, this was not that tough task because China has dictatorship type of government. In very short time period they achieved significant mastery. Now China’s national university of defence technology developed Tianhe-2, which was ranked as ‘number one Supercomputer of world’ in International Supercomputing Conference.

No doubt we still have very bright future in this field. It’s the race of leading , not surviving. India got very creative brains and extra ordinary talents, they have ability to do anything that seems to be impossible. There are many examples like Infosys who created EVERYTHING FROM NOTHING. What we need is little more support and encouragement from government.
